Breast Augmentation Surgery (Mammoplasty)

Mammoplasty is one of the most demanded in plastic surgery today. – one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the modern world. Breast augmentation is carried out with the help of implants, which can significantly change and improve the shape of the breast and its size.

Unfortunately, modern breast implants can not always be used for breast augmentation. In addition, it should be understood that mammoplasty allows you to achieve only breast enlargement, as well as to give elasticity. In other cases, mammaplasty has to be combined with some other plastic interventions.
With breast augmentation, it is impossible to correct the asymmetry of the position of the nipples or to carry out a lifting – tightening. In such cases, breast augmentation is performed in combination with mastopexy and other interventions.

As you already know, implants are used for breast augmentation. Currently, they are made from different materials. But the most famous silicone implants.Silicone is an organic compound containing silicon. This substance was first discovered by Antonio Lavoisier in 1787. Subsequently, various scientists sought to purify it, and in 1824 Berzelius received amorphous purified silicone.

Until the middle of the last century, silicone for breast augmentation was used in its pure form by injection into the breast tissue. This use was accompanied by the development of significant granulomas, as the tissues reacted to silicone. Only later did it begin to be used in the form of silicone-filled balloons.

What are saline implants?

Saline implants are a shell made of synthetic material, which is filled with saline, in the form of which a sterile isotonic sodium chloride solution acts.

An important advantage of a saline breast implant is that if it ruptures or leaks, it will be practically harmless, since the contents are saline. This type of breast implant was first developed in France in 1964. Today, these implants are made from a thick silicone shell. This shell becomes soft at room temperature. The placement of such an implant in the breast is carried out in an empty form, which allows the use of a very small incision, after which it is filled with saline sodium chloride solution. After such an installation of the implant, a small scar remains.

It is worth noting that saline implants began to gain great popularity in the United States in the 90s of the last century, since a number of restrictions were imposed on silicone implants. In other countries, saline implants have not found such popularity as in America. Among the shortcomings that have reduced the popularity of these implants, one can note their visibility both visually and to the touch, and in addition, they are at risk of wrinkling.

Therefore, saline implants are not recommended for women with a small volume of their own breast tissue, as well as for women after a mastectomy – removal of the breast. Silicone implants are more suitable for them, for which the above disadvantages are not typical. If a woman has a large breast mass, the implant is best placed through the armpit, using saline implants.
