Otoplasty is a set of techniques for the elimination of congenital or acquired defects of the auricles. Most often, otoplasty corrects protruding ears – congenital absence or underdevelopment of the antihelix of the auricle. In addition, otoplasty of the ears solves problems such as correction and reduction of the earlobe.
Prominent ear correction is a standard outpatient otoplasty procedure that helps relieve the patient from the psychological discomfort associated with such an aesthetic defect. When correcting protruding ears, an incision is made on the back surface of the auricle, the correct shape of the antihelix is formed, after which a thin, completely invisible to the eyes of others, cosmetic seam remains behind the ear.
There are many methods of ear plastic surgery to correct protruding ears, but it should be noted that not all of them allow avoiding relapses, and, consequently, repeated surgical intervention. In the clinic “Scandinavia” in St. Petersburg, otoplasty is performed using modern technologies and proprietary methods that guarantee a high-quality and reliable result after the first and only operation.
Plastic surgery to reduce and correct the shape of the ears is performed both in adult patients and in children with too large auricles (protruding ears), as well as post-traumatic and congenital defects and asymmetry. It is possible to carry out plastic surgery of the ears for children from the age of 9, when the period of growth of the auricle has ended.
Another fairly common operation is earlobe correction. Ear plasty is required if necessary to eliminate tears and stretching of the earlobe, sometimes arising from wearing heavy earrings, as well as after tunneling (a type of piercing when a small hole is made in the earlobe, which is then enlarged with the help of special devices). The consequences of ruptures of the lobes are completely removed, and after a certain time, you can pierce your ears again. But after tunneling, the surgeons have to completely reconstruct the overstretched lobe.
Otoplasty of the ears, like any surgical operation, leads to disruption of tissues and blood vessels, as a result of which hematomas, inflammation, etc. may occur, which, however, will not affect the aesthetic result. You can return to your usual lifestyle after otoplasty in 1-2 days, and you need to wear a postoperative bandage for 5 days.
Otoplasty and the timing of its implementation are discussed individually with the attending physician and depend on the cartilaginous structures and soft tissues of the auricle.
