Blepharoplasty: eyelid lift, removal of “circles” and “bags” under the eyes
Thin, delicate skin around the eyes is the first indicator of age. It loses its elasticity early, becomes thinner, stretches, forming an overhanging fold in the area of the upper eyelids. All this gives the face a tired, gloomy expression, openly demonstrating age, and sometimes adding a few extra years. Often, the overhang of the skin fold in the area of the upper eyelids begins to limit the field of view, so that the operation to eliminate it – upper blepharoplasty – becomes not only an aesthetic, but also an important medical task.
Blepharoplasty requires a stay in the hospital for no more than a day, small operations can be performed under local anesthesia. Pain during and after surgery is practically absent. After surgery, pronounced swelling of the eyelids and bruises persist for days. Moderate swelling can be observed up to a month. After blepharoplasty, recovery is usually easy: the stitches are removed on the 4th-5th day, pink scars are easily hidden with foundation. Lower blepharoplasty is necessary when fatty hernias and excess skin appear in the lower eyelids. Acquired fatty hernias occur due to age-related muscle relaxation: the circular muscle of the eye weakens, the eyeball drops, and the orbital fat begins to “bulge out”. Modern technologies in plastic surgery make it possible not to remove fatty hernias completely during eyelid surgery, but to redistribute them or remove them only partially. This technique, combined with excision of excess skin, allows you to achieve a pronounced and durable lifting in the delicate area of the eyelids. At the same time, the severity of the nasolacrimal sulcus can be eliminated with the help of lipofilling – so the overall anti-aging effect will be more natural and harmonious. Lower eyelid surgery allows, at the request of the patient, to correct the shape or change the ethnic section of the eye, get rid of the consequences of injuries that led to narrowing of the palpebral fissure, increase the angle of the section of the eye.
Depending on the indications, plastic surgeons at the Istanbul clinic offer a differentiated approach to solving the problems of each individual patient. Mastery of many progressive techniques allows them to choose a combined treatment regimen for optimal results, for example, combining lower eyelid surgery, lipofilling and endoscopic lifting of the upper third of the face.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty – seamless eyelid surgery
Often, an indication for blepharoplasty is congenital fatty hernia of the lower eyelids, which appear even in very young people. Since they do not have excess skin, the plastic surgeons of the Scandinavia clinic offer them the technique of seamless – transconjunctival blepharoplasty. This technique allows you to make an incision along the conjunctiva – the mucous membrane of the lower eyelid. Through such an “internal” access, fatty hernias are removed or redistributed. After the operation, there is even no need for suturing: the mucosa recovers well and quickly.
